HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEMS

Samsung Health Monitor · Sleep Apnea

  • Designed asynchronous message protocols between Wear OS and Android for the Sleep Apnea feature, collaborating with Samsung Research America.
  • Worked on sensor-data collection, session management, and recovery following device reboots, permission changes, and failures.
  • Contributed to health-data backup, restoration, and synchronization interfaces using Samsung Health SDK, collaborating with Samsung Korea.
  • Reduced unnecessary sensor activity and polling; refactored connection handling with approximately 2× faster connection establishment (as measured internally).
Asynchronous Messaging Session Management Fault Recovery Data Backup Resource Efficiency

NETWORKED SYSTEMS

FlashShare · Fault-Tolerant LAN File Sharing

Ongoing
  • Designed a high-throughput peer-to-peer system for large LAN transfers using fanout and relay topologies.
  • Separated user-space control protocols from the bulk data path, implementing direct transfers using Linux sendfile().
  • Designed progress-aware recovery after relay failures through transfer-state tracking and control-plane coordination.
  • Exploring splice()/tee() for low-copy relay forwarding.

Undergraduate thesis · Manuscript under review

Patient Similarity Detection via Contrastive Learning

Undergraduate thesis on patient similarity detection using physiological signals from the Stanford Wearable PPG and PTB Diagnostic ECG datasets. Developed a novel contrastive loss function tailored to patient similarity learning and adapted ResNeXt and EfficientNet architectures for 1D time-series representation learning. Designed and optimized a K-nearest neighbors (KNN)-based inference pipeline for similarity search and label prediction over large patient databases, incorporating parallel processing to improve inference efficiency and reduce latency. Evaluated the proposed approach against existing baselines. Manuscript will be submitted to a Q1 journal.

Experimental Projects

Logless replication and recovery · Oct 2025 – Present

disKeyV

An ongoing experimental logless distributed key–value store built around segment-based replication and recovery. It uses TCP communication, heartbeat-based failure detection and leader transitions, with crash recovery and safe-read handling. Further work considers software-emulated RDMA-style transport and recovery correctness.

Kernel Threads on xv6

Extended the xv6 kernel with threads sharing a process address space. Extended the implementation to thread creation, kernel scheduling behavior, and synchronization involving locks and semaphores, including challenges caused by sharing process resources across concurrent execution.
